Garcia for Floyd and Gio.
Got home from Cthulhu last night to see the news report on cnnsi.
Phils deal for Garcia
Oooh boy. I initally got a little worried as the earlier reports showed Rowand heading back to Chicago for Garcia. But delving a little deeper I saw that the phils gave up Floyd and Minor Leaguer Gio Gonzales (who they got in the Thome trade).
Now I had mix emotions when seeing this. First off this gave the phils their 6th starter, signaling another move is highly likely. There was some talk about Lieber to the Brewers for a RF and a RP. Turnbow is the most dropped name. Saw him in july just after the all-star game with Ferrari. Blew a huge lead in the 9th and had a bit of a funky delivery. Matt loves him, so that might make our spring training adventure more fun. Getting more relief help will probably be more important if they plan to keep Rowand in CF and Victorino in Right. I think we’ll probably see the phils starting outfield as Burrell, Rowand, Victorino, with Conine and Roberson off the bench, although I would like to see Bourn make the team.
Back to the trade, Floyd is what really makes me a little down about the move. I really liked Floyd. I thought the kid had alot of potential and he had put up great numbers in the minors the past few years. But he seemed like he got rattled really easy and had a very fragile psyche. I’m sure this will help in Chicago with Guillien. I truly wanted Floyd to do well as the next Hamels to come out of the minors, but he just couldnt seem to get the same results against big league hitters that he could in the AAA/AA ball.
Snakes.
But I’m so enjoying the Hot Stove/Winter Meetings. Very exciting time in the offseason with all the moves and speculation and talk. God I cant wait untill March.
