Yet another Rain Delay, but the best play ever? possibly.
Last night Andy, Matt and I went to the phillies game even with the looming threat of rain. Andy’s car wasnt working so we took the Sentra.. good ‘ole sentry. We arrived at the game just in time for the late start. After grabbing some cheesesteaks (chicken wiz witout for me) we took a spot along the railing over the bullpen. We hoped we’d catch a glimpse of Wagner or some others but Wagner was a no show untill the 3rd inning. We did see Madsen in his new role in the bullpen, but he just signed some kids autograph and played catch with Abreau for warmups when the phils took the field.
So we’re there, Andy and I rooting for Floyd to have a good game when like normal he gets into some trouble early. After two quick outs he proceeds to give up a double and then walk the bases loaded. Xavier Nady who hit a 2 run shot in game 2 launches the 2 out, 3-2 pitch deep deep deep into center, probably the deepest part of the stadium. The ball carries a bit and I’m thinking it’s going out for a grand slam.. would have been another tough start for floyd and I can imagine it just going down hill from there. But the wind was at our backs and blowing in from center and it seemed to knock the ball down a bit.. It’s still carrying well and looks like it might just get over the fence or hit the top. Aaron Rowand is heading at full speed towards the wall, the same wall by the way that he requested extra padding to be added just this year but it hasnt been installed yet. So rowand is heading back and about 20 feet from us at the foot of the bullpens makes an amazing catch at the wall, and then proceeds to collide fast first into the way breaking his nose! Blood Everywhere! Best catch I’ve ever seen in person. Has to be one of the best plays at the park ever, maybe one of the best in all phillies history…
Without a doubt he saved that game for the phils. He should get a SV in his stats. final after called for rain 2-0… runs saved by Rowand, 3. Gavin Floyd gets another win!
